How two people build an app

Behind every app on our shelf are real people, not a big company with a marketing department. We're a small studio, and we like it that way. Small means we know the people we build for, we can change course quickly, and nothing ships unless we'd be happy to use it ourselves.

Mugu Labs began when Dennis and Bradil got tired of clunky, overcomplicated software and decided to build something better. Here's who we are, and how we work.

Dennis Mburu, Web Developer

Dennis writes the code that makes our apps work: the screens you tap, the logic behind them, and the plumbing that keeps your data where it should be. His focus is making things fast, reliable and light enough to run well on the phones people actually own.

Bradil Wangila, Web Designer

Bradil shapes how everything looks and feels. Before a line of code is written, he's working out what should be on each screen, what can be left out, and how to make the next step obvious without explaining it.

His focus is clarity: readable text, clear buttons, calm colours, and designs that feel natural whether you're on a brand-new phone or one that's seen a few years of use.

How we work together

We start with a real person. Every product begins with someone who has the problem: a salon owner, a seller, someone tired of their own spreadsheet. We sit with them, watch where they get stuck, and build around that.

Design and code talk early. Bradil sketches, Dennis builds a rough version, and we try it on real phones as soon as possible. Ideas that look good but feel awkward get dropped quickly.

Small, then smaller. We'd rather do one job properly than ten jobs badly. If a feature isn't pulling its weight, it goes.

We keep going after launch. Shipping is the start. We keep listening, fixing and improving for as long as people use what we've made.

What we're working on

  • Dashboard X: a personal finance dashboard for people who gave up on spreadsheets. Live on Google Play.
  • Bookflow: a booking app for salons, barbers and beauty studios. In development.
  • ODA: a shop link for people who sell on WhatsApp, TikTok and Instagram. In development.

Say hello

If you've got a problem you wish someone would solve properly, or you'd like to test one of our apps early, get in touch. We read every message, and that's usually how our next app starts.
